WELL INTERVENTION SOLUTIONS

FTAI OCEAN’s Smart Tower System (STS) facilitates safe, flexible and effective well intervention and plug & abandonment operations. The system was specified by FTAI OCEAN and optimises performance by combining proven modular well intervention technology with innovative sub-system design. The STS facilitates riserless and riser-based well intervention operations in water depths of 80 to 1,500 metres, providing an Active Heave Compensated platform for surface pressure equipment, slickline & e-line operations and for the building, operation, and recovery of OWIR and intervention systems. Designed to operate in adverse weather conditions and certified in accordance with DNVGL-OS-E101.

The STS incorporates a dual-level Heave Compensated Platform, which allows easy access to the surface pressure control equipment whilst reducing stresses into the riser. The platform is actuated with a ram rig hoisting system which enables the deployment and recovery of 75ft OWIR joints and subsea pressure control equipment of up to 250-tonnes.

To enable riserless intervention operations whilst also optimising existing vessel hardware, the STS includes a mechanical and control interface for the MV Pride’s 250 tonne active heave compensation subsea construction crane. The integration of the MV Pride crane into the full deployment system along with 4 off 5 Tonne compensated guide wires and 2 off 10 Tonne compensated pod lines, allows for the deployment and recovery of the riserless subsea intervention package and supporting components.

The vertical OWIR racking system significantly improves deck safety by reducing the need for personnel to be on the intervention floor and serves to optimises deck space. The OWIR joint racking system handles both conventional threaded drill floor casing riser and specialist collet connector OWIR and offers touch button automatic loading to and from the rack to the well centre. A hinged moonpool hatch provides a 250t SWL hang off via a 49 1/2” bushing interface with a keyway, together with apertures and guidance for guide and pod wires, as well as umbilical’s and flushing supply/return down lines.

The deck skidding system improves safety and increases the operating window by removing personnel from the operation, by minimising offshore crane lifts and enabling equipment to be directly loaded into well centre. Each of the 4m x 4m pallets has a 120t SWL capacity and can be moved both longitudinally and laterally across the full width of the vessel, maximising the number of storage bays. Longitudinal rails run forward of the well centre to an additional forward pressure control equipment parking bay, located within a dedicated access and maintenance garage providing safe access to the subsea pressure control equipment.
